BOONEVILLE, Miss. - The 2024 schedule for the Northeast Mississippi Community College volleyball program will feature a similar look when compared to its inaugural season.
The Lady Tigers will once again participate in more than 30 matches, including three weekend tournaments, during their second year of competition.
Almost all of Northeast's contests are against two-year institutions from the neighboring Magnolia and Yellowhammer states. The Lady Tigers will face 11 of the 14 volleyball playing members of the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC).
"The competition between the two states is high level," said Lady Tigers head coach Brenda Mayes. "Our girls are excited about this season and so that makes me even more excited to see what we can accomplish."
The lone exceptions to that are home-and-home matchups with NAIA junior varsity clubs from Rust College and Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University. The Lady Tigers start their new campaign by visiting those teams on August 22nd and 27th, respectively.
Two of the three tournaments are repeats from last year. Northeast travels to the Alabama/Mississippi Crossover Battle in Hanceville, Ala., from September 6-8 and the Snead State Invitational one month later.
The Lady Tigers added the Calhoun (Ala.) Community College hosted Warhawk Showdown to their slate from October 25-26. This event also serves as the conclusion of Northeast's regular season.
The primary change for Northeast comes from inside the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC). The Lady Tigers have 10 league matches this year with the introduction of teams at Jones College and Meridian Community College.
Northeast begins its conference agenda on Monday, September 23 by welcoming Jones. The annual rivalry series between the Lady Tigers and Itawamba Community College takes place on September 25th in Fulton and October 14th on the Booneville campus.
The home opener is on Tuesday, September 3 versus Freed-Hardeman. It will be one of the first opportunities for Northeast's fans to see the updated court design in legendary Bonner Arnold Coliseum following renovations to the floor.
Northeast will recognize its initial sophomore class on Wednesday, October 16 as Meridian comes to town. The Lady Tigers play 13 of their final 15 contests prior to the postseason on the road.
The Lady Tigers are part of a pair of tri-matches as well at Coastal Alabama Community College at Brewton on August 30th and at Bevill State (Ala.) Community College on October 18th.
