JACKSON, Miss. - Northeast Mississippi Community College has received more proof that its sports teams feature some of the brightest athletes from the Magnolia State and beyond.

A total of 75 individuals from Northeast were saluted for their work in the classroom by the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC).

Northeast has either matched or broken the school record for most academic all-conference selections for six straight years. The old mark of 68 winners was set during the 2022-23 athletic season.

The MACCC annually recognizes both freshmen and sophomores from its 15 institutions that complete 24 cumulative hours between the fall and spring semesters with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.25.

Nominees with a GPA between 3.25 and 3.79 earn Academic All-MACCC while those with a GPA of 3.8 or higher obtain Distinguished Academic All-MACCC. Athletes that graduate in December can qualify by taking 12 countable hours.

Northeast's traditional service area, which includes Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo and Union counties, was well represented as usual with 27 awardees. Booneville High School had the most alumni on this lineup with eight.

Baseball had the most players acknowledged out of any program for the third year in a row with 19. Their diamond-based counterpart softball was right behind them with 18 recipients.

Football once again had double-digit honorees with 13. Women's tennis, which accounted for Northeast's top team GPA at 3.79, had all but one member of its active roster secure these awards.

Northeast's previous department record for most National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic accolades was shattered as well with 51 this year.
