BOONEVILLE, Miss. - The next destination on Chelsey Rhodes' professional journey is the NCAA Division I level following a successful stop at Northeast Mississippi Community College.
Rhodes has resigned as the head coach of Northeast's women's basketball program to accept the position of recruiting coordinator at College of Charleston (S.C.).
The Lady Cougars won a program record 25 games last season and advanced to the third round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). Charleston is a member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA).
"I have witnessed coach Rhodes grow and mature both on-and-off the court as our head coach," said Northeast athletic director Kent Farris. "She did a great job for us and we wish her the best in her new role."
Rhodes arrived on the Booneville campus in April 2022 after working at her alma mater of Delta State University for four seasons. Northeast was the initial head coaching job of her career.
She led the Lady Tigers to their first 20-win season in 18 years during the 2023-24 campaign. Rhodes' teams also hosted postseason contests inside legendary Bonner Arnold Coliseum in each of the previous two campaigns.
Northeast's fourth place showing this year in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) was its best finish since division play was discontinued following the 2020-21 season.
The next leader of the Lady Tigers inherits a program that has captured a national championship, three region titles and 10 conference crowns during their tradition-rich history.
