BOONEVILLE, Miss. - Northeast Mississippi Community College won more than 60 percent of its baseball, basketball, football and softball contests during the 2022-23 academic year.

The Lady Tigers and Tigers were even better inside their home venues with a greater than 75 percent success rate in those same sports.

The following are five of the top games from Northeast's 10 intercollegiate athletic programs during its 74th year of competition inside the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

#1 No. 16 Northeast 84, No. 13 John A. Logan 75 (Men's Basketball on November 11, 2022)

The Tigers traveled to Vincennes, Ind., for the second straight year to take on John A. Logan in a battle of nationally ranked programs as part of the annual McDonald's Classic. The matchup lived up to its hype.

Northeast found itself down by 18 points with 14:32 left in the game. However, the Tigers outscored the Volunteers 43-16 from that point, including a 20-5 margin over the last five minutes of the contest.

Jalin Rice (Madison) topped four double-digit scorers for Northeast with a game-high 25 points. Steven Gentry, Jr., (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Corey Stephenson (Hueytown, Ala.) both had more than 20 points as well.

#2 Northeast 31, No. 7 East Mississippi 21 (Football on October 13, 2022)

The Tiger defense forced seven turnovers against East Mississippi for the second consecutive season. The difference between this year and the 2021 meeting is that Northeast was able to come away with the win.

Kylan Garrett (Independence) answered the Lions' opening kickoff return for a touchdown by taking Carter Putt's (Columbus) first pass of the game 65 yards to the end zone. The duo connected again for 55 yards and another score after a defensive stand by the Tigers.

Goldman Butler, VI (Biggersville) rushed for two touchdowns while Jacoby McQuiller (West Point) filled the stat sheet defensively with 10 total tackles, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and an interception to help lead Northeast to its second nationally ranked win of the season.

#3 Northeast 8, Jones 7 [10 Innings] (Baseball on May 5, 2023)

The Tigers were a victory away from advancing in the region playoffs after defeating the Bobcats in the opener of a best-of-three series one night earlier at The Plex. However, Jones made things interesting late in game two.

The Bobcats scored five in the top of the ninth inning to force extras. Walks to Khi Holiday (Tupelo) and Kristian Sprawling (Olive Branch) allowed Noah Foster (Tupelo) to come to plate with two men on base and nobody out in the tenth.

Foster took a two-strike pitch and lined it into left field, which scored Holiday to send the Tigers to the double elimination portion of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament for the first time since 2008.

#4 Northeast 12, Frontier 11 [8 Innings] (Softball on February 24, 2023)

In a back-and-forth matchup as part of the Mississippi/Illinois Challenge, the Tigers grabbed a 7-6 lead after three frames. Frontier pushed across three runs in the fifth to put Northeast behind heading into the late innings.

The Tigers found themselves down one run in the bottom of the seventh when Alexie Griffin (Atoka, Tenn.) came to plate with two outs and a runner at second. She singled to bring in the tying run and send the game to extras.

The Bobcats scored two in the eighth to retake the lead. Down to their final out in the bottom half, Brianne Locke (Starkville) had a RBI double before Elisa Claire Young (Thrasher) hit a ball over the left-centerfield fence to give the Tigers a walk off win and extend their perfect start to the season.

#5 Northeast 70, Northwest 65 (Women's Basketball on January 19, 2023)

The Lady Tigers battled through injury issues all season that forced them to play with six or seven players for their last 11 games inside the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC).

In their first game with only six athletes available, Northeast was down by 10 points going into the fourth quarter in a road rivalry matchup. The Lady Tigers outscored Northwest 13-2 over the last four minutes to leap ahead.

A couple of Madison Bennett (Tishomingo) three pointers got the Lady Tigers back in the game and then Ella Mask (Corinth) made four free throws in the final minute to seal the come-from-behind victory.
