JACKSON, Miss. - Student-athletes at Northeast Mississippi Community College once again excelled in the classroom during the 2018-19 school year.
A total of forty young men and women from each of Northeast's competitive athletic programs were honored with Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Academic All-State recognition.
It is tied for the most MACJC Academic All-State selections in school history. Northeast originally set this scholarly record during the 2016-17 campaign.
"Northeast has a proud tradition of academic excellence and our student-athletes continued to achieve at a high level," said Northeast athletic director Kent Farris. "I would like to commend our coaching staffs and Leigh Treloar in our student success center for their hard work to ensure that our student-athletes succeed."
The MACJC annually acknowledges individuals from each of its 15 member institutions with scholastic awards. It is the fifth consecutive year in which Northeast placed more than 20 players on the Academic All-State list.
Both freshmen and sophomores are eligible for the MACJC's educational accolades. Student-athletes must complete a minimum of 24 cumulative hours during both the fall and spring semesters.
However, players that transferred to a four-year university following the first semester of the academic year qualify for this distinction by finishing 12 cumulative hours.
Student-athletes with a grade point average (GPA) between 3.25 and 3.79 earn Academic All-State status while those with a GPA of 3.8 or higher receive Distinguished Academic All-State laurels.
The softball program provided the most honorees for the second straight year. Sixteen of its 21 total members, or roughly 76 percent of its entire roster, captured one of these intellectual prizes.
The football team had the second most players decorated with 12. Northeast's baseball, men's basketball and women's basketball programs were well represented as well.
The following is the list in alphabetical order with sport, GPA and high school of the Northeast student-athletes that were recognized as either MACJC Distinguished Academic All-State or MACJC Academic All-State.
