Chagolla tosses no-hitter as Northeast splits with Holmes

Northeast Mississippi Community College freshman Bianca Chagolla helped the Lady Tigers earn a split with Holmes Community College on Wednesday, March 13.

Chagolla tossed a no-hitter striking out nine as the Lady Tigers rallied back for an 8-1 win over the Lady Bulldogs in the nightcap for the split.

Holmes (4-19, 1-1 in North Division) captured the opener 5-1 despite being held to just two hits by Erin Dixson.

While Chagolla was holding Holmes hitless, the Lady Tigers found their offensive grove in the nightcap banging out 14 hits against Katie Johnston and Kelsey Rogers.

During the 14-hit outburst, six Lady Tigers recorded multiple hits with Andrea Cutts, Victoria White, Ellen Tarrant, Gracie Michael, Chagolla and Dixson all recording two hits apiece in the contest.

Kiana Judon and Haleigh Moffett had the other two hits in the contest for the Lady Tigers. Moffett made the most of her solo hit – bashing a three-run homer in the fifth inning.

Holmes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third but the Lady Tigers quickly erased the home lead with four runs in the fourth on an RBI single by White and a two-run homerun by Tarrant.

In the opener, Holmes capitalized on a pair of Lady Tiger errors early in claiming a quick 3-1 lead in the first and never looked back.

Dixson, who drove in Northeast's solo run of the game, did work on the mound matching Lady Bulldog ace Kelsey Marter and allowed just two hits the entire game while striking out six and walking a pair.

Holmes added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
