NEMCC softball splits with Three Rivers

Northeast Mississippi Community College softball team got a complete-game, eight-inning effort from sophomore pitcher Erin Dixson of Amherst, New York in earning a split with Three Rivers (Mo.) on Wednesday, March 6.

Northeast (6-3-1) picked up its first win since February 24 with the 1-0 eight-inning win over the Lady Raiders after dropping the first game of the doubleheader 10-2 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Dixson kept the Lady Raider bats in check limiting Three Rivers to just four hits in the extra-inning contest and got a friendly fielder's choice to give the Lady Tiger sophomore all the run support she would need.

After Mirah Terry subbed for Ellen Tarrant to begin the eighth inning at second, Northeast wasted little time in plating a run.

Corinth's Erin Frazier moved Terry over to third with a sacrifice bunt to the right side of the infield and Becky Robinson legged out a fielder's choice to third that allowed Terry to score.

Terry's run was all Dixson needed in sealing the win for the Lady Tigers.

Three Rivers followed Northeast's lead in the bottom half of the frame and moved its runner to third with a sacrifice bunt on the first batter of the inning but a pair balls to second sewed up the win for the Lady Tigers and left the tying run on third.

In the opener, Northeast jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a Bianca Chagolla two-run home run in the third only to see the Lady Raiders rally for seven runs in the bottom of the third and walk off with an early victory after plating a pair in the sixth.

Northeast will look to improve on its split with Three Rivers as the Lady Tigers host Northwest Mississippi on Friday, March 8 in the North Division opener for both squads. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
