BOONEVILLE, Miss. - Tyler Byrd will rack up quite a bit of frequent flyer miles over the next several weeks while testing himself against elite basketball talent from around the nation.

Byrd will travel from coast-to-coast to participate in three prestigious summer events ahead of his second season at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

His first stop is out west for the JA48 from July 11-12 in the metro Phoenix area. Byrd will then jet across the country to join teammate Josh Holman at the All-American JUCO Showcase Invitational in Atlanta over the next two days.

Byrd completes his journeys in Rock Hill, S.C., from July 23-25 at the NCAA College Basketball Academy. He is one of only 54 athletes from all two-year organizations, including the independent California and Northwest associations, to earn a spot in this competition.

"It's going to be a crazy summer for him, but he's familiar with traveling and playing a bunch of different places," said Tigers head coach Cord Wright. "It's a big opportunity for him because of the exposure and the magnitude of each event he's in."

Byrd got onto the radar of these showcases after becoming the first Northeast freshman to receive National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American honors since Antoine Wilkerson some 27 years ago.

The Memphis, Tenn., native led the Tigers in scoring with 17.9 points per game. He was even better in league play with an average of 20 points on the dot while shooting just under 50-percent from the floor.

His efforts helped Northeast capture its eighth Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) championship in program history and advance to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament semifinals.

Byrd recorded a team-best 24 points plus six rebounds and two blocks as the Tigers clinched the title with a thrilling home victory over Pearl River Community College on the last night of the regular season.

The 6-3, 190-pound guard reached double figures in 28 out of Northeast's 32 total contests. Byrd also scored 20-plus points 14 times and pieced together three double-double performances.

Byrd had a career-high 32 points in an overtime matchup at Hinds Community College. He and Caleb Parr were the first Tigers to produce more than 500 points in a single season since fellow All-American DeAnthony Tipler did so during the 2019-20 campaign.

He also topped Northeast with 2.7 steals per outing. Byrd, who secured NJCAA All-Region 23 and all-conference accolades as well, finished third on the team in minutes, rebounding and blocks.
