BOONEVILLE, Miss. - The Northeast Mississippi Community College cheerleading program is ready to lend its support to the athletic department during the institution's 73rd year of existence.

For the fourth consecutive academic year, a total of twenty young ladies were chosen to represent Northeast on its spirit squad.

They made their official debut during the first home football game of the season on Thursday, September 9 when Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College visited Tiger Stadium.

"This group of athletes is going to be fun to watch on the sidelines," said Northeast cheer coach Chasity Moore. "I have been impressed by their work ethic and determination. They understand that the work is worth it."

Seven ladies return for their final campaign in a black-and-gold uniform, including Dakari MacDonald of Sheffield (Ala.) High School. She is one of two Alabamians on the unit along with Huntsville's Aly Kay Mitchell.

Booneville and Tishomingo County are the most represented high schools. Lynsie Kate Burns, Mary Houston Ivy, Jaycee Janzen and Alyssa Rich are former Blue Devils while Megan Cornelison, Chloe Hollingsworth, Brianna Lowrey and Kaitlyn Robinson all won a state championship with the Braves.

Former Alcorn County rivals Meyon Green and L'Zareya Howard of Corinth plus Brantley Carter, Carley Clement and Marlee Turner from Kossuth are now teammates at Northeast.

Demi Lindsey is a dual sport athlete for the second straight season. The Saltillo product is also a starter at first base for the softball program where she earned academic awards from both the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as a true freshman.

Nettleton High School graduate Melly Gardner carries on her family's legacy at Northeast. Her brother Grady Gardner, dad Grant Gardner and uncle Guy Gardner all suited up for the tradition-rich men's basketball team.

Caledonia natives Hallie Kate Brewer and Reece Stacy plus Ally Melton of Ripley round out the Tigers' roster. Northeast Jones High School alumnus Ethan Cook will serve as Northeast's Spirit the Tiger mascot.

Northeast's cheerleading team is non-competitive, but extremely active around campus with appearances at basketball and football contests plus several other important college sponsored activities such as pep rallies.
