BOONEVILLE, Miss. - The 2024 schedule for the Northeast Mississippi Community College baseball team is almost completely opposite when compared to last spring.

The Tigers will play their first 16 contests at home as part of an overall slate that features the most regular season games in school history.

"We're getting a chance to develop more guys," said Northeast head coach Richy Harrelson. "They're getting more at bats, innings played and pitching. Just get them out there and see what they're going to do so I absolutely love it."

The Tigers hosted only two doubleheaders in all of February 2023. Northeast will reverse that this season by traveling just once during their busy opening month.

Northeast welcomes programs from across the country to The Plex for seven consecutive weekends beginning with its season-opener on Saturday, February 3 versus Columbia State (Tenn.) Community College.

The Tigers have three four-game series in that stretch against quality opponents, including Dyersburg State (Tenn.) Community College, Jefferson (Mo.) College and Kaskaskia (Ill.) College.

"That's something that we're really excited about," Harrelson said. "It's going to be a great test for us. You know when they bring their teams down, they're going to be prepared and ready to go. They're going to be well coached."

Northeast leaves the borders of the Magnolia State just once in another scheduling oddity. Its lone out-of-state trip is to Wallace State (Ala.) Community College at Hanceville on Saturday, March 2.

The Tigers will once again participate in three round robins featuring Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) members before the official start of league play in mid-March.

One of those dates will take place on the Booneville campus as Northeast brings in Coahoma Community College and Meridian Community College for a tripleheader on Tuesday, February 20.

Northeast and rival Itawamba Community College met four times in fall exhibitions. They will compete in three more contests this year with a twinbill in Fulton and a single matchup at Senatobia.

The calendar shifts in April for the Tigers with 10 of their final 12 games on the road. That includes a visit to Northwest Mississippi Community College on the ninth and a playoff rematch with Jones College four days later.
