Northeast Mississippi Community College Athletics

Leigh Treloar will serve as the inaugural head coach of Northeast Mississippi Community College’s women’s golf program. The Lady Tigers begin intercollegiate competition during the 2025-26 academic year.

Treloar was previously an assistant at Mississippi State University for the better part of a decade from 2010-18. She will also maintain her current duties as one of Northeast’s student-athlete success coaches.

She will use the next year to piece together her initial roster plus build relationships with local courses and high school coaches. Northeast is the fifth institution to sponsor women’s golf inside the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC).

Golf has been an integral part of Treloar’s life from her childhood. She took to the sport while growing up in Meridian and went on to achieve a decorated career that earned her a scholarship to Mississippi State.

She captured consecutive Mississippi Golf Association (MGA) girls’ junior amateur titles from 2004-05. Treloar’s second championship was a thrilling one-shot decision at her home course of Briarwood Country Club.

Treloar had two top 10 outcomes at the Exxon-BFI Future Tour Championship during that same stretch. She was appointed to Team Mississippi for the Southeastern Women’s Amateur Team Championship Association (SWATCA) match play event four times.

Her efforts helped Lamar School secure a pair of Mississippi Private School Association (MPSA) Class AAA championships. Treloar and the Raiders collected three south state titles and a runner-up finish as well.

Treloar participated in 23 total tournaments over a five-year period with the Lady Bulldogs. She was among Mississippi State’s starting five for all nine events during a solid senior campaign.

She was tied for the Lady Bulldogs’ best result after the first round of the 2010 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament with a 76. Treloar concluded her playing career with a three-day score of 236 at NorthRiver Golf Club in Alabama.

Treloar improved her scoring average each season at Mississippi State. The lowest round of her tenure with the Lady Bulldogs was a 72 as a sophomore at the College of Charleston (S.C.) hosted Cougar Classic.

Her personal tournament record was a 230 at New Mexico State University’s Price’s “Give ‘Em Five” Intercollegiate in the fall of 2009. She posted a 249 in the Lady Bulldogs’ appearance at the NCAA East Regional during her freshman season.

She was twice named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team. Treloar was also selected to the SEC Community Service Team in 2010 and was a member of Mississippi State’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) for three years.

Treloar stayed at Mississippi State as a graduate assistant under new head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm during the 2010-11 campaign. She was elevated to a full-time position with the Lady Bulldogs one year later.

Mississippi State won five individual crowns and four team titles with Treloar on its staff. She mentored 13 WGCA All-American Scholars, two WGCA All-Americans and two All-SEC performers.

The 2013 edition of the Lady Bulldogs made several historic achievements. They tied the program mark for highest finish at the SEC Tournament and became the first team ever from the Magnolia State to qualify for the NCAA championship finals.

Ally McDonald Ewing led the way for Mississippi State as the NCAA Central Regional medalist with a 10-under-par scorecard. She guided the Lady Bulldogs to a sixth place result at the NCAA finals as a senior in 2014.

Ewing is now one of the most elite players on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour. She has three tournament victories and seven top 10 showings at LPGA majors, including a tie for third at the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open.

Northeast athletes have broken numerous school records over the last four years with Treloar overseeing their classwork. Eight different sports have received National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic Team honors as well.

Treloar obtained both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in business and sports administration, respectively, from Mississippi State. She and her husband Justin have two daughters, Ramsey and Sophie.
