LADY TIGERS CONTINUE WINNING STREAK WHILE TIGERS FIGHT FOR A PLAYOFF SPOT

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College's basketball teams continue to battle through the late season opposition to fight for playoff spots down the stretch.

Coach Brian Alexander and the Lady Tigers (10-6, 6-2) are fresh off a big north division win on the road against Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia on Monday, February 4.

Northeast dropped the Lady Rangers (14-5, 5-3) 73-69 to give Coach Alexander the sweep of Northwest in back-to-back seasons.

"I am proud of these young ladies for the mental toughness they displayed on the road," Alexander said.

Leading the way for the Lady Tigers against Northwest was freshman Angelia Allen, who scored 21 points to go along with nine rebounds.  Freshman LaTonya Gadison added 19 points and six boards in the win on Monday night.  Allen leads the way in scoring for Coach Alexander's unit on the season averaging 12.5 points per game followed by Gadison's 10.9 PPG.

Next up for the ladies will be a non-division match-up with Wallace State-Hanceville at Bonner Arnold Coliseum (BAC) on Thursday night starting at 5:30 p.m.

For the men and head coach David Robbins, the set back on Monday night against the Rangers put the Tigers in a must win situation for the rest of the way in the division contests.

Northwest (13-4, 6-2) defeated the Tigers (8-9,3-5) in the nightcap 80-76, giving the teams a split in the series on the season.  Northeast was without their leading scorer sophomore Acie Vance, who averages over 15 points per game, due to an injury.  KeDorian Sullivan and Tyler Brunson led the way for the Tigers against the Rangers with Sullivan scoring a game-high 19 points along with nine boards, while Brunson completed the double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

With the division loss, the Tigers will have to fight hard over the next four-game stretch of division games starting at East Missisippi on Monday, February 11 in Scooba.  The Tigers will face non-division opponent Missouri State-West Plains at the BAC tomorrow night following the women's game at approximately 7:30 p.m.
