BOONEVILLE, Miss. - Northeast Mississippi Community College's newly revived men's and women's tennis programs are seeking additional talent among the current student population. 

The Lady Tigers and Tigers will host an open tryout for the upcoming 2022 season on Saturday, July 31 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Northeast Tennis Complex. 

All participants are required to bring a copy of an up-to-date physical and must sign a release form, which is available to download and print HERE. Tryouts for both teams will be held at the same time. 

Prospective athletes should come prepared to showcase their skills and abilities by demonstrating a variety of shots, including backhand and forehand techniques as well as serves and volleys. 

Only individuals who are enrolled or are planning to take classes during the 2021 fall semester at Northeast are eligible for this tryout. Players are expected to bring their own equipment, which includes but is not limited to athletic apparel, tennis shoes and a racquet. 

Tennis is returning to Northeast after it was temporarily disbanded following the 2016-17 academic year. It was originally added as one single co-ed team in 1974 before splitting into two separate entities in the 1980s. 

The Lady Tigers and Tigers are Division I affiliates of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Northeast joins nine other members of the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) in the NJCAA's Region 23. 

Northeast has won multiple individual state championships in singles and doubles competition through the years. The last appearance for both the Lady Tigers and Tigers at the NJCAA National Tournament came in 2008.
