Decatur, Miss. - Two of the most dynamic women's basketball players in the Magnolia State have received the opportunity to represent Northeast Mississippi Community College for one more night.
Cherelle Jones and Dayzsha Rogan were selected to play in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Star Game on Friday, April 12 at East Central Community College.
"I'm very proud of them," said Lady Tigers head coach Brenda Mayes. "I look forward to seeing how they perform under different coaches as they get ready to go to the next level. It's an opportunity for them to work on their game as they make their future decisions."
Jones became the first Lady Tiger to average a double-double for an entire season since Bridgejae Patterson did so during the 2015-16 campaign. She posted 12.9 points and 11.4 rebounds per game during her final year on the Booneville campus.
She was the individual state champion in rebounding this season with 274 boards, including 110 offensive and 164 defensive. Jones totaled an impressive 522 rebounds during her two-year tenure at Northeast.
The Middleton, Tenn., native pieced together 13 double-doubles in 24 total games during her sophomore campaign. She had five-in-a-row to begin the year, including a 22-point, 18-rebound effort in a victory over Snead State (Ala.) Community College.
Her 22 points against Snead State tied a career-high that she set during the Lady Tigers' season opener versus Wallace State (Ala.) Community College at Hanceville. Jones grabbed a career-best 20 boards in a triumph at Holmes Community College in February.
The 6-0 center won two consecutive MACJC Player of the Week awards this year. She was tabbed to the MACJC All-State team as a freshman after tallying 10.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest.
Rogan topped Northeast in multiple statistical categories during her last season in the City of Hospitality, including field goal percentage, free throw percentage, points, assists, steals and minutes played per outing.
She finished second in the state and tied for 17th in the country along with Savanna Walker of East Georgia State College with 19.1 points. It is the first time that a guard has led the Lady Tigers in scoring since Antionette Riddle averaged 15 points during the 2013-14 campaign.
Rogan had two 30-plus point games as a sophomore. Her top performance came during Northeast's marquee victory over then fourth-ranked Shelton State (Ala.) Community College inside Bonner Arnold Coliseum with 31 points, including the game-winner with 7.1 seconds remaining.
She came close to achieving a rare triple-double on multiple occasions. She recorded 19 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in a triumph over Coahoma Community College and later had 21 points, 11 boards and eight steals at Mississippi Delta Community College.
The Ripley High School graduate also tied for 11th in the nation and led the MACJC with a total of 98 steals. She also broke a program record by winning MACJC Player of the Week five times this season.
The MACJC All-Star Game begins at 5 p.m. with women's action first. The men's matchup immediately follows the opener at approximately 7 p.m. inside the Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building in Decatur.
