NEMCC TO LAUD TEN SOPHOMORES IN SATURDAY HOME FINALES

Booneville, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College's basketball programs conclude the 2014-15 regular season this weekend on a bittersweet note.

The Lady Tigers and Tigers will honor their sophomores on Saturday, February 21 when Coahoma Community College visits the City of Hospitality for the final home doubleheader of the campaign. Women's action is set for 1 p.m. with the men to follow.

Northeast also meets Holmes Community College for its final road tests of the year two days earlier on Thursday, February 19 with a scheduled start time of 6 p.m. in Goodman.

Those that cannot attend the matchup can watch them live on NEMCCTV, which is the new broadcast home of all nine Northeast intercollegiate athletic programs. Join Jeremy Kennedy, the Voice of the Tigers, 15 minutes prior to tipoff for the pregame show by visiting www.nemcctv.com.

Fans can also keep up with the contests using live in-game updates on Twitter by searching and following @NEMCCTigers.

Ten young men and women step onto the floor of legendary Bonner Arnold Coliseum for the last time in their careers when Coahoma comes to the Booneville campus.

This current sophomore class has led their squads to a combined 37 victories over the past two seasons. Both teams are also in position to qualify for the upcoming state playoffs.

The Tigers (15-6, 7-3) have already punched their ticket to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Tournament, which is hosted in Wesson by Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

It is an extra special group for Cord Wright. He inked five of Northeast's six upperclassmen during his inaugural signing class as headman of the Tigers during the spring of 2013.

"I can't thank them enough," he said. "They're all guys that I recruited when I got here except for Dexter, who chose to stick it out. I credit those guys for mental toughness and character.

"They've always kept getting better and worked at it. They hung in there and showed the way for these young freshmen."

Al Azulphar (80 career blocks), Chris Echols (team-best 62.5 field goal percentage), Cannon Edwards (69 made three-point baskets in two seasons), Dimario Jackson (683 total points), Tyre Mallard (48 percent career shooter) and Dexter Stafford (team-high 6.3 rebounds per outing) are the six men who will don the black-and-gold for one last matchup inside their own arena in a rare afternoon matinee.

Holmes clinched the MACJC North Division championship with a win at East Mississippi Community College on Monday. Daryl Macon is the lone double-digit scorer for the Bulldogs (17-5, 10-1) with 23.8 points each contest.

Willie Bronson guides Coahoma (1-19, 0-10) in both points and rebounds per game with 13.9 and 4.2, respectively. Da'Quan Forrest adds 10.8 points in a predominantly non-starter role for the Tigers.

Northeast head coach Brian Alexander expects his four sophomore standouts to approach their sendoff with the same composure and mindset that they would feature on a routine game day.

"They're going to play like they know how to play," said Alexander. "I've told them to have fun and cherish the moment. They understand that we love them and we'll never forget the contributions they've made to the program."

Jasmine Allen (tops in MACJC and tied for ninth countrywide with an 86.5 free throw percentage), Aushiana Ivy (543 total points), Ayana Ragin (42 career appearances) and Daisha Williams (13.3 points per contest) will each be recognized for their outstanding contributions to one of the most tradition-rich teams in the Magnolia State.

The Lady Tigers and Holmes are both still trying to secure one of the final playoff spots from the MACJC North Division. Aja Williams paces the Lady Bulldogs (15-7, 6-5) with 17.7 points and makes 6.4 buckets each outing.

Erica Collins compiled two double-doubles one week ago to earn MACJC Player of the Week honors for Coahoma (2-18, 0-10). She averages 15 points and nine boards per matchup to direct the Lady Tigers.

Northeast swept both Coahoma and Holmes in their initial meetings of the year during the month of January. The Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs each lost by one-point margins while the Tigers erased a 22-point deficit to record a come-from-behind triumph inside The Pinnacle.
