BOYD’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE NOT ENOUGH FOR LADY TIGERS

Goodman, Miss. –  Talisa Boyd had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Tigers on Monday night in Goodman but it wasn't enough for Northeast at the end of regulation.

With time running off the clock in the second half, Angelia Allen's potentially buzzer beating lay-up was thwarted by a Holmes defender – on a questionable no foul call – and fell just short of going through the bucket giving the Lady Bulldogs a two-point win 59-57.

Allen finished with 11 points and seven boards in her efforts.  Top performers for the Lady Bulldogs was Tamia Grady who scored 19 points, along with teammate Denesha Dillard, who added 13 points for Holmes.

Coach Alexander's team dropped to 13-8 overall and 7-4 in the north division while Holmes moved to 10-12 and 5-6, respectively.

Northeast's Lady Tigers will still qualify for the Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges (MACJC) state tournament with one division game left on the season against Mississippi Delta Community College on Thursday, February 21 in Booneville.  The outcome of Thursday night's match-up with the Lady Trojans will determine the Lady Tigers' seeding for the MACJC's first round of the playoffs -- that will be held at Pearl River Community College starting on Monday, February 25.

In the nightcap,  Kadorian Sullivan's three-point shot fell short, with just seconds left in the game, with Northeast trailing by three points 76-74.  However, Sullivan was fouled on the shot and was rewarded three free throws with approximately four seconds left in regulation.  Sullivan missed the first free throw, made the second, and misfired on the third, and the Bulldogs got the rebound and sealed the game at the other end -- with free throws of their on -- giving Holmes the 79-75 victory.

Coach David Robbins' team dropped to 9-12 overall and 4-7 in the division while Holmes moved to 11-11, 5-6.  With the loss, the Tigers still have a mathematical chance to enter the MACJC's state tournament as a fourth seed depending on the outcome of Thursday night's action around the league – and if the Tigers can defeat the Trojans.

Top performers in the men's game for Northeast was Sullivan, Tyler Brunson and Acie Vance.  Sullivan dropped in 17 points along with seven rebounds, Brunson added 16 points with five boards, while Vance had 15 points, hitting 3-for-3 from behind the arc and 6-of-8 from the floor.  DeAndre Scott lead the way for the Bulldogs with 22 points.
