NORTHEAST HOSTS COAHOMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE TONIGHT

BOONEVILLE, Miss. –  Northeast Mississippi Community College's basketball teams will host Coahoma Community College at Bonner Arnold Coliseum tonight in another Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division showdown.

In tonight's opener, Coach Brian Alexander will look to add to his team's success in the MACJC's North Division this season with another win against Coahoma (CCC).

Alexander led his squad to a 69-47 win in Clarksdale back on January 22, where the Lady Tigers got game-high performance out of his freshman forward Talisa Boyd from Natchioches, Louisiana.

Boyd scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor to go along with seven rebounds in the road win.

Alexander has pushed his team to an overall record of 11-8 and 6-3 in the North, while Coahoma is currently 4-14 overall and 1-9 in divisional play.  Northeast is 7-2 at home and has won six of their last eight division games – falling to Itawamba Community College and East Mississippi.

According to the recent report by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), CCC is 0-6 on the road and 3-5 overall at home .

"We have had great support this year from our fans and we need you against Coahoma," Alexander said.  "Please come early and be loud."

For the men's side, David Robbins' unit are in a must win situation against Coahoma, if the Tigers want to have a shot at postseason play.

With only the top four teams –out of seven – qualifying for the playoffs, in the North and South divisions, the Tigers must win their next three games in order to qualify.  Northeast is currently sitting at the sixth spot in the North just behind Holmes and Mississippi Delta.

That winning streak must start tonight against a Coahoma…a team that defeated Northeast back on January 22 in Clarksdale on a final of 75-63, despite a 27-point, nine-rebound effort from sophomore Tadarius Coburn of New Albany.

CCC is 9-10 overall and 5-5 in the North and are currently at the number three spot in the North while Northeast is 8-11, 3-6 respectively.
