NORTHEAST FALLS TO JONES COUNTY IN DOUBLEHEADER ON THE ROAD

Ellisville, Miss. –Northeast Mississippi Community College's men and women's basketball teams dropped both games on the hardwood to Jones County Junior College on the road Monday night in Ellisville.

In the nightcap, the Tigers led at intermission 28-25 and held the lead for most of the second half but a late push of momentum by the Bobcats forced overtime as the two squads were tied at 58-all to end regulation.

Jones County (4-0) capitalized on their momentum and jumped out to a 69-58 lead to opening up the extra five minute period and never looked back.  Northeast was finally able to score points in OT when Tyler Brunson nailed two free throws -- at around approximately the two minute mark -- to make it 69-60 contest.  However, the gap was too much for the Tigers to overcome and fell to the Bobcats on a final score of 75-66.

Brunson was the game leading scorer with 19 points to go along with five boards, followed by Malcolm Halmilton who added 13 points, while Acie Vance finished with ten points, four assists, and five boards.  Detrick Davis lead the way for JCJC with 15 points followed by Ladarron Johnson who chipped in 12 points for the Bobcats.

The Lady Tigers also got off to a hot start in the first half in the opener.  Northeast had a 38-33 lead at the break but was outscored in the second frame 43-35 by the Lady Bobcats (2-1).

Shooting from the floor in the second half was dismal for the Lady Tigers.  Northeast shot 33 percent (9-of-27) from the floor while JCJC shot 65 percent (13-of-20), respectively.  Free throw shooting also came into play in the final frame with the Lady Tigers hitting on 17-for-31 (58-percent) and the Lady Bobcats shot 17-for-25 (73-percent).

Both the Tigers (1-2, 0-0) and Lady Tigers (1-2, 0-0) will look to rebound from the road loss as they travel to Decatur to take on East Central Community College on Thursday, November 15.  These two squads met back on November 5 at Bonner Arnold Coliseum where Northeast was able to come away with the sweep.

Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday night for the ladies with the men to follow.
