Jackson, Miss. – Tia Davis has been awarded for her exceptional start to the campaign at the pinnacle of Northeast Mississippi Community College's batting lineup.

Davis was selected as the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Player of the Week for all games contested between February 13-19.

"It's just a testament of the effort and amount of work that she puts in," said Tigers head coach Jody Long. "There's not a kid on our team that works as hard as that young lady day in and day out. It's starting to pay off on the field.

"The changes we've made in her swing have really clicked with her. Being as strong as she is, she's had a lot of extra base hits. She gives 100-percent effort in everything that she does. I'd take nine or 10 like her everyday."

Davis was the catalyst for a Northeast offensive that averaged eight runs per game during a doubleheader at Jackson State (Tenn.) Community College and in the annual TigerFest Tournament.

She compiled a .455 batting average for the week with 10 hits in 22 official at bats. Davis had five doubles, one home run, a walk, one stolen base and three RBIs to help the Tigers record five victories.

"I just really thank God for everything that He's been doing for me and my team," Davis said. "The key to success for me was to get on base and get in scoring position. I just wanted us to start off on a good note."

Davis did a majority of her damage last week in the TigerFest, including during a perfect 3-0 afternoon for Northeast in victories against Lincoln Trail (Ill.) College, Spoon River (Ill.) College and Three Rivers (Mo.) Community College.

She went 3-for-3 in the Tigers' tournament opener against Lincoln Trail. She started a four-run bottom of the first inning for Northeast by smoking a double down the left field line.

The North Pontotoc High School graduate followed that with yet another multiple hit performance versus Spoon River. She connected on her third two-bagger of the afternoon and also swiped her first base of the season.

Davis concluded a lengthy day on the diamond against Three Rivers with a 2-for-4 effort. She produced her fourth double of the competition and also scored the fifth run of the matchup for Northeast.

The everyday centerfielder for the Tigers wrapped up the TigerFest by accounting for two hits and three RBIs in games versus Arkansas State University and John A. Logan (Ill.) College.

She crushed a two-run home run over the left field wall in the fifth frame against the Volunteers. It was her second long ball of the young year after hitting a grand slam in the season-opener at Dyersburg State (Tenn.) Community College.

"This will help me to move forward and keep working hard," said Davis. "It helps me stay focused and stay positive for everybody as a leader on this team. I've got to keep everybody lifted up and encouraging others. That's a big success for me."

Davis is one of the top batters through two weeks of the regular season for Northeast. She holds a .444 average with seven extra base hits, nine RBIs and seven runs scored.

The Ecru native has made one error defensively in 11 total chances to begin her final campaign in the City of Hospitality. She has also walked twice offensively and hit a sacrifice fly against Arkansas State.

She is the first Tiger to earn this prestigious honor since Bre Agnew did so on March 11, 2014. Jessica Boyd, one of Davis' fellow upperclassmen, captured MACJC Pitcher of the Week laurels last year.
