CLEVELAND, Miss. - Tate Dickerson's second season with the Northeast Mississippi Community College golf program is off to a great start following a stellar performance among a loaded field full of talent.

Dickerson fired a 7-under-par 209 as the Tigers placed eighth as a unit at Delta State University's Derrall Foreman Intercollegiate from September 20-21 at Cleveland Country Club.

The Derrall Foreman Intercollegiate featured a mixed grouping of five NCAA Division II institutions and five members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

It was also a unique event for Northeast in that it encompassed three rounds. All teams completed 36 holes on the opening day before working around a weather delay of over one hour during the final round.

The Austin Peay State (Tenn.) University transfer tied for 24th in the individual standings. He finished 14 shots better than his inaugural appearance in this tournament one year ago.

The 68 that Dickerson recorded during the second round was a new career-low. His previous personal best was a 71 last spring at Copiah-Lincoln Community College's Wolf Hollow Golf Club.

"His confidence is a lot better than it was last year," said Northeast head coach Derek DeVaughn. "I thought that he hit the ball very well and putted good. Hats off to him."

The low round of the competition for Northeast went to Braden Lovely, who posted a 5-under-par 67 during round two. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native had an overall score of 218 in his debut with the Tigers.

Andrew Fennell and Austin Lauderdale ended up just ahead of Lovely. Fennell of New Albany stayed at even-par with a 216 while Booneville's Lauderdale was one stroke behind at 217.

Carson Wilder improved 10 shots between his first and second time through the course. The Kossuth High School graduate had a 4-over-par showing for the entire event.

"I'm just tickled to death that it was a good first tournament," DeVaughn said. "You can always play better, but I'm very proud of our guys. We had good scoring conditions."

Northeast continues a busy first week of the 2021-22 regular season by visiting Hinds Community College for the inaugural Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) tour stop from September 25-26.
