TIGERS FALL TO TENTH RANKED GULF COAST

Booneville, Miss.,--Northeast Mississippi Community College traveled the long trek down to Perkinston, Miss., on Thursday, September 27 to face a tough opponent in week five's match-up against the nation's tenth ranked team  Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

It was all Gulf Coast (4-1) in the first half as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 26-0 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, the Bulldogs picked up where they left off with QB Clint Hatten throwing a 12-yard touchdown pass to WR Dhaquille Williams at the 12:56 mark to go up 33-0.

Northeast (1-4, 0-2) was able to get on the board mid-way through the third frame on a 1-yard quarterback sneak from Matt Lipham.  After the Chris Cooper extra point, the Tigers trailed 33-7.

However, that was the last time Northeast was able to get into the end zone and the Bulldogs would add to their lead with four more touchdowns for a final score of 61-7.

Top performers for Northeast was RB Garrett Smith who had 76 rushing yards on 26 attempts and punter Jonathan Harrison, who booted seven punts for a total of 337 yards, for an average of 48 yards. Defensively, CB-Kareem Brown had an interception and two tackles along with CB-Martice Buckley who had eight stops and one pass break-up for the Tigers on the night.  

Up next for the Tigers will be the Coahoma Community College Tigers (1-4, 0-2).  Northeast will travel to Clarksdale next Thursday night with kick-off slated for 6:30 p.m.
