BOONEVILLE, Miss. - Details are now finalized regarding upcoming tryouts for the Northeast Mississippi Community College cheerleading program.

Prospective athletes will descend upon the Booneville campus on Friday, June 26 to audition for the 2020-21 cheer squad inside legendary Bonner Arnold Coliseum.

Registration remains open through Monday, June 23. All candidates must have a prior coach submit a letter of recommendation on their behalf to head coach Chasity Moore by email at cgmoore@nemcc.edu by that date.

It is mandatory that each entrant sends a head shot to Moore at the same email address as well. They must also be enrolled in fall semester classes at Northeast before the tryout.

To register, please click HERE and completely fill out the online application that includes details such as potential positions, tumbling techniques, dance ability and select personal information.

Candidates will perform on an individual basis in front of special guest judges. Each participant should receive a specific tryout time and other key materials from Moore by email on Tuesday, June 24.

Knowledge of a back handspring is encouraged because it is part of the routine for Northeast's "Tiger Rag" fight song that is frequently played by the Showband from Tigerland at home contests.

Applicants should practice key skills such as toe touch, motions and chants in advance of the tryout. Proficiency in tumbling is highly preferred, but not a requirement.

Northeast's all-female cheerleading team is non-competitive, but extremely active throughout the academic year with appearances at basketball and football games plus several other important college sponsored activities such as pep rallies and recruiting events.
