BOONEVILLE, Miss. - The Northeast Mississippi Community College cheerleading program is making plans for a successful 2020-21 academic year.

Registration is now available for open cheer tryouts, which should take place prior to the start of the fall semester sometime in July. An official date should be set in the near future.

"We are excited to update everyone with information regarding our tryouts," said Northeast head coach Chasity Moore. "Thank you for your patience. We are trying to provide the best experience as well as stay safe."

All candidates are required to have a prior coach submit a letter of recommendation on their behalf directly to Moore by email at cgmoore@nemcc.edu no later than Wednesday, July 1.

It is mandatory for each athlete to send a head shot to Moore at the same email address by the same deadline as well. They must also be enrolled in classes at Northeast prior to the tryout date.

To register, click HERE and completely fill out the online application that includes details such as potential positions, tumbling techniques, dance ability and select personal information.

Applicants are encouraged to individually practice key skills such as tumbling, toe touch, motions and stunts in advance of the audition. An exact format for the tryout is still to be determined.

Proficiency in tumbling is highly preferred. Knowledge of a back handspring is also encouraged because it is part of the routine for Northeast's "Tiger Rag" fight song that is frequently played by the Showband from Tigerland at home games.

Athletes are judged based upon their overall performance. All ladies should prepare to execute a stunt sequence that features at least one transition and spinning variations during the tryout.

Northeast's all-female cheerleading team is non-competitive, but very active around campus throughout the school year with appearances at basketball and football contests plus other important college sponsored activities.
