Ziggy Marro was named the head athletic trainer at Northeast Mississippi Community College in July 2022.

He is in his fifth year overall on the Booneville campus. Marro is in charge of the medical coverage of Northeast’s 10 intercollegiate sports programs.

Marro is well respected by his peers in regards to his knowledge of athletic training policies. He was a presenter at the inaugural Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) convention in the summer of 2021.

The Shuqualak native has been involved in collegiate sports for more than a decade either as a student or as a professional. His path started as a football manager at East Mississippi Community College in 2008.

He moved on to the University of West Alabama to finish his academic career. He graduated from the Livingston, Ala., based school in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in athletic training.

Marro’s first job came at Arkansas State University where he just covered football. Marro then moved to the prep level to become the head athletic trainer at Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) power Muscle Shoals (Ala.) High School.

He returned to his alma mater of East Mississippi in 2015 to become an assistant athletic trainer. His primary responsibilities included working with the football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball teams.

His last position before arriving at Northeast was at Elite Physical Therapy in Columbus. His duties in the Golden Triangle included coverage of the men’s basketball, softball and women’s basketball programs at Mississippi University for Women.

Marro is married to Laura and the couple has one son, Wyatt. They also enjoy spending time with their family dog, Gunner.
