Ryan Moreland is in his second year as the sports information specialist at Northeast Mississippi Community College. He is tasked with assisting in the coverage of the institution’s 11 intercollegiate athletic programs.

Moreland comes to Northeast after graduating from Mississippi State University in May 2019 with a Bachelor’s degree in sports studies with a concentration in communication.

The Marietta native worked in the media relations department as a student at Mississippi State. He helped behind the scenes during numerous regular season and postseason sporting events that were hosted by the Bulldogs. 

Among the activities that Moreland worked were two NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament first and second round events at Humphrey Coliseum, a NCAA Starkville Regional and Super Regional in baseball plus the opening round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament. 

Moreland also travelled to Atlanta, Ga., to serve on the media relations staff at the 2018 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Football Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. 

He has also been part of the official stats crew at prestigious high school basketball tournaments including the Lighthouse Classic in Corinth and the Hotbed Classic at New Albany’s historic Memorial Gymnasium.

Moreland spent a year-and-a-half as a student at Northeast before transferring to Mississippi State. He worked in the sports information department as a statistician for the basketball and football programs.

He covered the 2016 Northeast men’s basketball team that won the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament before advancing to the national tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. The football team also claimed a top 10 final ranking during his sophomore year.

Moreland is a member of both the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM).

Moreland is a 2015 graduate of New Site High School where he played basketball. He is married to Arianna and the couple is expecting a baby girl in the fall of 2022.
