Dustin Jones enters his fourth season of coaching at the collegiate level during the 2016 campaign at Northeast Mississippi Community College. He will teach a talented group of linebackers for the Tigers.

Jones should have no troubles with leadership in that unit with the return of Demarcus Rogers, who was a Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State selection one year ago.

He shifts back to the defensive side of the pigskin after serving Northeast as its wide receivers coach during the 2015 campaign. Four of his athletes from that team continued their careers at four-year institutions.

Donta Armstrong, who was a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American as a kick returner, and Joe Horn, Jr., inked with the University of West Alabama. Jaylon Fair signed with the University of Arkansas at Monticello while Khalid Kornegay found a new home at the University of Regina in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan.

Jones brings the passion and dedication of the United States armed forces with him to the football field. He served our country as a member of the Army beginning in 1999 as a cavalry scout and retired as a non-commissioned officer in 2007.

While on active duty, he was stationed in Georgia, Hawaii, and Kentucky. His squadron was part of multiple overseas engagements, including Operations Noble Eagle (War on Terror), Desert Spring (Kuwait), Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan).

Jones also worked as a tactical instructor for basic combat training and advanced individual training.

The Army decorated Jones for his time spent in service to this nation. He has received four Achievement Medals, four Accommodation Medals, a pair of Accommodation Medals with Valor, a Bronze Star Medal and a Community Service Award.

Jones began his coaching career at Tishomingo County High School in 2011, where he served as an assistant on both sides of the pigskin for two years under the direction of his brother Lanny Jones.

He held the titles of co-offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator during his tenure with the Braves. He also spent time specifically training and developing Tishomingo County’s quarterbacks, receivers, defensive backs and defensive ends.

Northeast added Jones to its staff two years ago to work with the offense. Under the tutelage of Jones, Demarrion Haynes was selected to participate in the 40th annual MACJC All-Star Football Classic at Tiger Stadium.

Jones will also focus on game and practice film break down plus the recruitment of future Tigers.

After honorably leaving the Army, the Fulton native returned to school and attained an Associate’s degree from Itawamba Community College in 2010 and a Bachelor’s degree through Liberty (Va.) University three years later.

He is a graduate of Mantachie High School and has one daughter, Grace.
